South Central’s Therapeutic Day School serves 30 students, ages 7 to 14, who have been unable to cope in the regular school system. A structured therapeutic milieu in which the student participates in a planned program of activities - 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, year round - that is designed to modify social, emotional and academic activities.
Students are referred to this NCA accredited program from the Chicago Public Schools and suburban districts. Following an extensive evaluation at a local public school to determine specific deficit areas, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed summarizing the child’s special needs and services to address those needs. If Therapeutic Day School placement is recommended, the student is referred out and tuition is paid to this private facility by the referring school district.
South Central’s goal is to reintegrate students into a traditional school setting or to meet Chicago Public School requirements for an 8th grade diploma.
