Howard Area Leadership Academy (HALA) is an NCA accredited high school for 120 students, ages 16-20. The alternative school is affiliated with the Youth Connection Charter School and is a program of the Howard Area Community Center, a community-based agency serving Rogers Park.

Programs & Services
The school provides a credit-based academic program designed to meet Illinois State Standards for graduation. Students work with twelve teachers, five counselors, five tutors, the two co-principals, and an education leader toward the goal of a high school diploma. In addition to the academic curriculum, the school provides an array of support services and student activities.

Admissions
Students who are interested in enrolling in HALA must be between 16-20 years of age, a resident of the City of Chicago, not currently enrolled in a high school program, and have 6th grade reading and math levels, be willing to enter a waiting list, take a TABE test, attend pre-enrollment orientation and interviews, and sign a probationary attendance contract.
