Since 1974, Community TV Network (CTVN) has provided media arts education to youth living in underserved communities. Through CTVN, youth learn the essentials of digital video production by working as a functional TV production team, creating videos about their lives and concerns to broadcast on Chicago’s CAN TV 19, Manhattan Neighborhood Network’s Youth Channel in New York City, and online at youtube.com/user/hardcoverchicago. In our programs, youth gain skills in literacy, job readiness, critical thinking, teamwork and visual arts. Hard Cover: Voices and Visions of Chicago’s Youth is CTVN’s award-winning youth-produced TV show and after-school program. The program offers Chicago youth, ages 13 to 21, an enriching and productive way of using their time during after school hours and in the summer. CTVN currently offers digital video production and post production classes in 12 high schools in the Alternative Schools Network.
