Sullivan House Alternative High School serves students of the South Shore area. The school has an enrollment of 343 students and a student/teacher ratio of about 12:1. Opening in 1974, we are one of the oldest alternative/charter schools in the country. The high school is affiliated with Youth Connection Charter School, The Alternative Schools Network, and the State of Illinois.
Programs & Services
Students ages 16-21 who have dropped out or who have difficulty in traditional high school settings study a basic high school curriculum leading to a diploma. There is an emphasis on developing reading and writing skills by participating in the SHHS Literacy Program, Principal Writing Prompt, journal activities, student portfolio process and a multitude of extra-curricular activites and school sponsored events. Sullivan House Alternative High School also has evening programs from 3 pm - 8 pm. Students need 18 credits to graduate.
