The Alternative Schools Network (ASN) proudly celebrated Chicago’s young filmmakers at the YS3 Film Festival, highlighting the creativity, talent, and powerful storytelling of youth across the city.

ASN staff worked together to support and organize the event, creating an opportunity for young people to showcase their work, connect with industry professionals, and envision bigger possibilities for their futures.

A special highlight of the festival was an engaging panel discussion moderated by Shelia L. Brown. The panel brought together experienced voices from the television and film industry who shared their personal journeys, professional experiences, and life lessons with the next generation of creatives.

The panelists spoke candidly about their non-linear career journeys, perspectives on the TV and film industry, and the lessons that contributed to their longevity and success. Their honesty and encouragement gave participants an opportunity to learn from real-world experiences and see that there is no single path to achieving their goals.

The conversation was especially meaningful for the youth in attendance, who were able to ask questions, gain insight into creative careers, and hear firsthand stories from professionals who have navigated their own unique paths.

ASN is especially proud of the young people who participated in the festival and the amazing work they created. Their films, creativity, and willingness to tell their stories demonstrate the incredible talent and potential of Chicago’s youth.

The YS3 Film Festival is more than a celebration of film—it is an investment in young people and their futures. Through opportunities like this, ASN continues to encourage youth to explore their talents, develop their voices, build connections, and pursue their dreams.
