Fostering Learning Program (FLP)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Fostering Learning Program’s (FLP) principal mission is to partner with agencies servicing Illinois DCFS youth-in-care to facilitate youth development by offering FREE academic and social/emotional education services. To achieve this mission, FLP bridges the “digital divide” between the typical, advantaged high school student and youth-in-care of Illinois by providing fully-supported, structured access to virtual learning systems that empower students to achieve success (credit attainment/grade promotion/graduation) through self-paced learning tailored to the individual's need and skill level.
 
Academic Curriculum

Odysseyware: virtual learning and curriculum services where staff and enrolled youth have access to a full suite of State-aligned, core academic courses for 6-12 grades, including electives, language courses and 68 employment skill-building courses that cover essential knowledge for securing and maintaining a job. Additionally, Odysseyware provides K-5 prescriptive learning skill-building/remediation courses in English and Mathematics to ensure that youth can access essential knowledge to be successful in their current grade level.

 

Social-Emotional Curriculum

Purpose Prep (SEL): equips, empowers, and educates students to succeed both personally and professionally. Core courses include but are not limited to: Social Emotional Learning (SEL), College & Career Readiness, Personal Development, Leadership Development, Character Education, Life and Workforce Skills, Mental Health & Wellness, Restorative Justice, Trauma-informed Instruction, Intervention, and Prevention. Purpose Prep has over 1,000+ hours of SEL content, 600+ engaging instructional videos, 4,000+ prepackaged discussion questions, and over 80+ Educational Experts.

 

Collaboration & Support

By providing in-depth consultation, initial and continual training, the Fostering Learning Program offers unparalleled, direct technical support in-person and virtually (via computer, phone and email), which promotes the rapid development, implementation and continued investment in virtual learning services.

 

Program Eligibility & Requirements

The Fostering Learning Program works intimately with therapeutic day schools in Illinois servicing Illinois DCFS youth-in-care between the ages of 10 and 21 to develop or enhance the virtual learning environment utilizing a 21st century education model. This learning model reaches beyond the traditional classroom materials to leverage technology in effort to create relevant learning experiences that mirror students’ daily lives and the reality of their futures.
